The poem I read was I,Too by Langston Hughes. This poem was about how America treated other people with more respect than others and also how all people are the same and should be treated the same. When I first read this it was easy to understand from the first 3 lines in the first stanza. It talked about how the character wasn’t treated like the rest of the people because he was told he wasn’t allowed to eat with them. He didnt let that bother him though as he said he laughed ate well and grew strong. Then the next day he stood up for himself and didn’t listen to them and sat with the company. After reading this a few times I’ve noticed how this poem conveys a meaninful message in a very unique way, the message to me was to treat everyone the same no matter there differences. The author shows it in a short story by saying what happened that day and how he stood up for himself the next day. One thing I like about this poem is how it tells a story in a short poem. I like this part because it makes it very easy to understand the meaning behind the poem. Another part I like is the message the poem gives about treating everyone the same. Also this shows to stand up and defend yourself as well. 4 questions I would ask the author are for one is he the character in his poem, is this a story about himself? I ask this because the way he wrote it made it seem like he was telling a story about himself. Another question I would ask is what made him write about this topic. I would ask this question because it is a very controversial topic and what made him choose it. Another question I would ask is what made him choose the title and the first and last lines. I would ask this because he made the title the beginning and end of his poem and also the title doesn’t explain anything to the reader and wouldn’t help you figure out what the poem is about. One last question I would ask is why did he make the poem so short on a topic you can talk a lot about? I think the author did this because he wanted it to be a different way to convey this message. This is what I thought about the poem I,too.
